“This is a golden opportunity for the advancement of our country Indonesia if we can make use of it,” said President Jokowi in his remarks at the celebration of the 78th Anniversary of the Indonesian Teachers’ Union (PGRI) and the National Teachers’ Day 2023, held at Britama Arena, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Saturday (25/11).

“I have spoken with many international institutions, and the key lies in the development of human resources. The quality of human resources is the key,” said the President.

The President stated that good human resources quality can be achieved with the help of outstanding and great Indonesian teachers. Teachers who act as guides, motivators, mentors, friends, and role models.

“In Java, there is a saying ‘guru iku digugu lan ditiru’, meaning that teachers are trusted and emulated. Teachers are entrusted and held up as role models,” said the President.

The President mentioned that the government places high hopes on teachers throughout Indonesia. The President hopes that teachers and educational personnel continue to strive for inclusive, safe, comfortable, and enjoyable education for Indonesian children.

“Schools should be a learning garden to nurture and develop the talents and potential of children, making them physically, emotionally, and spiritually strong, as well as intelligent and skilled,” he said.

Furthermore, the government is committed to continue supporting teachers, including improving their well-being. According to reports from the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas, the recruitment of ASN P3K teachers in 2021 and 2022 included 544 thousand honorary teachers who passed the selection process.
